Far Far West is a four-player Wild West co-op shooter with monster hordes, bounty missions, and crowd-control tactics. A mod for unlimited resources reduces grind but removes tension.
Far Far West is a four-player co-op shooter set in a Wild West fantasy frontier. You fight monster hordes, cast spells, finish varied missions, and collect bounties. It works as both a pick-up co-op session for casual groups and a deeper tactical grind for completionists. The 1.2 update’s new enemies and refined objectives push you toward coordination, not pure gunplay.
Playing on the middle and higher difficulties, the difference from version 1.1 is noticeable fast. Monster groups now coordinate their attack timings, with several ranged types hanging back while melee units push from the flanks. The old habit of kiting everything in a circle stops working around mission 8 or so. I found that at least one player needs to focus on crowd control spells; without that, the team burns through ammo and revives way faster than before. Environmental cover is not cosmetic either. Standing behind crates or wagon parts reduces incoming damage, but it also limits your shooting angles, so repositioning constantly becomes part of the job. The frontier maps are compact, and verticality matters; taking a balcony or rooftop early can turn a hard wave into a manageable angle fight.
The bounty system in Far Far West is the part I enjoy most, but it also reveals how far the game pushes you to specialize. Some missions only pay well if you complete secondary objectives under a strict timer, so splitting roles matters. One or two players should actively chase bounty targets while the rest provide defensive cover. Learning attack patterns pays off here: certain monsters show a brief vulnerable state right after a charged attack, and that is the window for critical hits. The downside is that in normal mode, the resource grind can feel heavy if you’ve just failed a few runs, and bounty timers don’t wait for new players to catch up.
I tested the Far Far West mod that unlocks unlimited resources, and it genuinely changes how the game feels. All the grinding for materials and upgrade parts disappears, so you can build, upgrade, and experiment freely. I tried loadouts I would never have touched in normal sessions, and that freedom made the game feel like a sandbox for a while. But the mod is not a perfect fix. With no scarcity, some missions lose their tension, and the strategic trade-off of saving ammo or choosing where to spend resources nearly vanishes. It is a better fit for players who want to explore maps and enemy behavior than for those who enjoy the economy pressure.
The strongest moments in Far Far West happen when four people actually communicate. Calling out flanking routes, timing revives, and combining area-of-effect spells with precise shots make the chaos manageable.
But if you play with random matchmaking, expect inconsistent results; a player who ignores the bounty timer or refuses to use cover can sink the whole run. Also, the game assumes you have a steady group for the hardest levels, since enemy counts scale to team size and there is no real solo mode. It is not a casual mindless shooter, and it does not hide that from you.
