Rogue Vill

Rogue Vill is a mobile action roguelike where failed runs still earn permanent village upgrades. Collect skill cards, battle ranged mobs, and spend gems on lasting buffs. Balanced difficulty, responsive dodging, but grindy upgrades and occasional performance issues make it best for committed players.

Description

Rogue Vill is a mobile action RPG that mixes roguelike exploration with persistent village upgrades. You enter short dungeon runs, collect temporary skill cards and gear, then return to the village to spend gems on lasting buffs. Defeat doesn't reset your progress entirely, which makes every failed run feel useful.

What Rogue Vill Does Differently

Most roguelikes punish you with a full reset after death. This title doesn't go that far. The skill cards you picked during a run vanish when it ends, but your earned gems, unlocked character classes, and permanent stat boosts stay in the village. That makes every failed run feel like an investment rather than a waste. The main loop remains tight, but the real progress lives outside the dungeon, not inside it.

Where the Run Actually Gets Hard

The difficulty doesn't come from enemy health bars. At least not at first. As you go deeper, ranged mobs start attacking from the edges of the screen, and some rooms are cramped enough to push you into a corner. I learned to watch enemy wind-up animations instead of reacting to every movement. Certain Rogue Vill skill card combos can turn a messy fight into a one-sided one, but you need to commit to a build early. The dodge action feels responsive once you stop overusing it. Boss fights expose a real flaw: projectiles can come from angles you cannot fully see on a small phone display, and that feels unfair the first few times.

The Permanent Upgrades That Actually Matter

Rogue Vill permanent upgrades are where the game opens up. Spend gems on base damage, cooldown reduction, or movement speed before the next run begins. The difference between a hero who reaches the later floors and one who gets stuck is often a small stack of extra health, not a rare weapon. That said, the grind for gems gets repetitive. The upgrade screen is sparse, so after a while you are just scrolling menus and pushing the same upgrade buttons.

Performance and Control Notes

On a mid-range phone, the app generally holds up well. I set the effects quality to low because the particle effects stack up quickly, and that fixed the occasional stutter. Touch controls are mostly reliable, but the attack joystick and dodge button sit close together. During a heated boss fight, I have accidentally hit the dodge instead of the attack button several times. The build I tested would occasionally close itself after a long session, and devices with limited RAM need background apps closed to keep the frame rate steady.

Who Should Skip This One

The pacing will annoy you if you expect a mindless arcade hack-and-slash. Several enemy types force you to stop attacking and reposition. The ruins biomes later on have a damage spike that can feel unfair, and the difficulty does not stagger well between zones. Even with permanent upgrades, a single run can end in seconds if you push forward without checking the edges of the map. I still play because the build variety keeps things interesting, but I would not recommend it to players who only want quick, casual sessions.
