Description

EXiTS is an escape room survival game that traps you in a freezing abandoned room with no obvious way out. The core loop mixes code hunting, resource management, and a revenge story that starts after you get the door open. It doesn't try to pretend you're a hero; you're someone trying not to freeze while solving the puzzle.

Why the Cold Makes You Move Faster Than Any Timer

Plenty of escape games rely on a countdown, but EXiTS uses temperature instead. Your body heat drops steadily, and the only way to push back is to burn anything you can find — paper, clothing, broken furniture. That creates a strange tension because every item you burn might also be a clue you'll need later. I remember hoarding a piece of cardboard for a long while, only to realize it was needed for a note written on the other side.

The cold also changes how you explore. You can't just stand in one corner and inspect every pixel; you're forced to make decisions about which drawers deserve your remaining warmth. That may sound simple, but it makes the early rooms feel far more dangerous than a typical cold survival puzzle game.

Clues Are Not Just Visible — They're Weirdly Physical

Numbers and cipher hints aren't glowing highlights. They're hidden inside torn paper edges, under scratched paint, or behind furniture you can move after clearing enough debris. Some of them are so faint that you'll need to adjust the brightness on your phone or tablet just to spot them. This is one of those moments where EXiTS feels like a real abandoned space, not a clean level from a mobile puzzle collection.

Honest Limitations Without Breaking the Experience

For all its atmosphere, EXiTS has some rough edges. The inventory system is clunky; combining two items sometimes requires selecting them in the exact right order, and a misclick wastes time while your heat meter drains. There are also rooms that feel unfair on the first run, especially one corridor where a creature spawns right behind you with no audio cue. Combat isn't polished either—the melee attack has a stiff swing, and enemy pathing can push them into walls. A ranged weapon helps, but ammo is scarce.

Replay value is another issue. Once you memorize the password sequences, a full playthrough doesn't last long. That's fine for a weekend puzzle, but don't expect a long campaign. The story teased after you escape the first rooms ends abruptly, leaving you with more questions than the game seems willing to answer.

Who Should Spend Time With EXiTS

If you like short, atmospheric escape puzzles and don't mind a few frustrating dead ends, this is a solid choice. The game rewards patience and careful observation, and the cold mechanic gives it a personality that standard room-escape titles lack. On the other hand, players who prefer action-heavy survival games or large open maps will probably find the environment too claustrophobic and the combat too secondary.

I played through several different rooms before the patterns clicked, and even then, the game caught me off guard with a hidden exit that looked exactly like the wall behind it. That kind of subtlety is rare, but it also means some players will simply give up too early. Stick with it past the first death, and you'll see why the small details matter.
